As the corporate sponsor of the Nobel Foundation’s new educational game launched today on Nobelprize.org called “Heating Plastics”, Basell Polyolefins is helping to influence and inspire future generations of Zieglers and Nattas. “Heating Plastics”, which is part of Nobel Web’s Educational Outreach Program, is a game designed to educate children 14 years and older about plastics. The game also highlights the significant contributions of Basell predecessor company scientists Karl Ziegler and Giulio Natta, who shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1963 for their revolutionary work in the development of polyethylene and polypropylene polymerisation. I think I speak for many of us when I say that I am proud to be part of a company which, over 40 years later, still produces catalysts that bear their names and that continues to create innovative plastics which meet the needs of our customers and improve our quality of life. I encourage you to visit nobelprize.org and play the “Heating Plastics” game with your teenagers (To access the “Heating Plastics” game, click on the following link: http://nobelprize.org/educational_games/chemistry/plastics). It features a talking toy duck which guides visitors through the game and illustrates the chemistry used to create various types of plastics. Visitors are presented with a variety of plastic items and are tested on their knowledge of polymer chemistry, judging whether an item is a thermoplastic or a thermoset. Each correct guess is awarded a “catalyst”, and winners who collect enough catalysts can produce their own toy duck. The game also features an informational section that explains in detail the different types of plastics, the history of plastic development, and how plastics have impacted our society. This is the school website link i found for challenge 9. I liked it because it was interesting to look at and it was colorful.
I liked this website because it had pictures of kids in the school right on the front page. I also like that you can see the different classes by grade.
I like that the Charter Website is very simple, and you don't have to have taken a website challenge to know how to navigate and get around.
