Getting Started on the City Gates Website

On your first visit to CGADE.ORG, here are some suggestions to "get your feet wet".

Reading all the recent posts - one stop shopping

The CGADE development team received some feedback that people were annoyed (or inconvenienced) after receiving a new content notification containing multiple items. I think the issue was that people were flipping between the email and the website in order to read the new posts. There is a much simpler way.... You should know by now that when you get a new content notice, some itemswill only be visible after you login. If you click on a link for private content and are not already logged in to cgade.org , you will received an "access denied "message. Once you do login, you will see the page.

Getting a City Gates Academy Website password

CGA community members have already been assigned username and passwords. The email addresses on file with the school should already been linked to the CGADE website login.

Scheduling Option Now Available for Posts

A new feature allows you to control when your post will be published and unpublished. This is useful if you have content that is time sensitive or will not be useful after a certain date. It also means that you will not have to delete it when it has expired, because the feature will make it invisible after the "unpublish" date. To use this feature when creating most types of content;
  1. Start posting your item as you normally do
  2. Scroll down to the "scheduling options" menu and click to expand
  3. Enter the date to begin publishing, or leave blank to publish immediately **

Share web favorties at the Links Library

Now available, the City Gates Academy Website links library provides a way for you to give back to the homeschool community. Post links for resources in:
  • educational materials
  • legal support
  • spiritual aids
  • parenting helps
To post a website link:
  1. Create content -> Link
  2. Fill in the title and description
  3. Type in (or paste from another browser windwo) the URL (i.e. http://greatsite.com).
  4. Submit
Note: do not post links to the front page (they have their own page)

Steps for creating an event

How to make an event: 1.First start at the main screen (www.cgade.org) 2.Under the site block, click create content 3.Under create content a list of things that you can choose will pop up and you want to click on event 4.Select what time and the date which the event will start an end. 5.Create a title for your event, then if you wish you can make the event that you create private or open to spacific people 6.At the bottom of the screen it has a block titled body, where you write what you wish for your spectators to read

You must allow cookies from CGADE to login.

In your internet browser and any other security programs you are running, you must permit cookies from cgade.org in order to login.  The reason for this is because by logging in you are establishing a secure connection of sorts. When you are log off it is safe to delete the CGADE cookies. Personally I believe in living as "cookie free" as possible.

Access denied when clicking on an email notification link

When you receive an email notification about new content, keep in mind, some content is private. In these cases, simply clicking on the link should result in a "ACCESS DENIED" error. If this happens, simply login and click the link in the email again....
