A good, free software package for free calling over the internet -SKYPE

For broadband users, making phone calls over the internet has become a mainstream reality. Sounds like a gimmick but with an inexpensive headset and a free download, US users can be making free calls to other SKYPE users anywhere in the world. For an extra $30 a year you can also Skype-Out and be able to call out to land lines and cell phones.

Skype works using voice over Intenet packet (VoIP) technology. Skype has been offically introduced by my corporation as a cost saving measure. We all know how frugal H/S families can be so why not take advantage. Skype can be downloaded at www.skype.com. Registration requires a minimum of personal information.

Who should consider using Skype:
-if you have broadband internet (I am guessing dial-up would perform poorly)
-if you call friends, family and missionaries who are not local but are computer saavy
-if you do not already have a good long distance plan which makes L/D calls virtually free.
-someone in you family travels overseas

Pros:
-free
-easy to setup
-easy to use
-integrated chat
-reduce phone bills

Cons:
-requires headset or VoIP phone ($10-20).
-requires registration to create an account
-what will your kids think?
-conversations should be considered moderatly secure i.e. dont use for financial transactions or highly personal information (just like your cell phone, right?)
-must be at you computer to make/receive calls (or spend more for a VOIP Phone)
